Thanksgiving 27-11-14

Happy thanksgiving. I want to thank all of you for all your support while I have been gone. I appreciate all your prayers and staying in contact with me. It has been three months (one of the students told me 93 days). Time has flown. I want it back. But the time has been good. I try each day to live in the moment and with no regrets. I have had many great adventures while here, made lots of good memories, created inside jokes, and left my GAP with some good stories to tell when they go home... I have grown a lot, learned a lot, and fallen in love with the people here. I am so thankful God  brought me here.

I had a great Thanksgiving with my GAP family and SCORE missionaries. It was Thanksgiving! It was great. The food was great. After our dinner, some of the students had their small group and then one of our leaders had a meeting to give us some fundraising tips. As of right now i still need a little over $2,000, but my church has put the sunday school offering towards me this month so I do not know where that leaves me yet. But I am praying. God is so much bigger than 2,000 dollars.

This past month I was able to spend a weekend at the ministry God called me to. It was a lot of fun and I enjoyed spending time with the lady who is encharge of us students when we are there, Adrienne. This past weekend we took a trip to the mountains to help a missionary family who just moved there. While we were there we put on a kids program and we did it all in spanish! It was hard, we triped on our words but with God's help the program was a success.

I love Emanuel House and I am so thankful that God called me there. The girls who serve with me are great. Our leaders are awesome. And the kids are... I do not know how to put but they have stolen my heart. I love talking to the short term mission groups about them and sharing with them about sponsorship. I have seen God move many individuals' hearts to want to sponsor kids that they have intertacted with while serving. It so exciting. Adrienne, Jaime, and I are thrilled.
This just one of the many ways I have seen God at work this month.

Friday 7-11-14

Last night I had a conversation with a high school student, who is here on a short term mission trip, about how he wishes they had taken the trip the first year of spanish so he would have been motivated to learn spanish for the rest of the high school years. I was thinking about that this morning and about Colossians 3:23. For me, Colossians 3:23 has come up several times this week so I know God is trying to get my attention.  Several of us students have said I wish I would have known that God was going to call me to a spanish speaking country or I wish I would have known I was actually going to use this one day. That is where Colossians 3:23 come in. We need to do everything as though it is for God (because for us Christians it is) not for people. We need to do our best in school not for our teachers or parents but for God because it might help you with what/where He calls you. - this is what God has been teaching me this week

Yesterday i bullot noted some things that God has been teaching me while I have been here. I was quite amazed not only by how many things but also how many times each of those things have come up. For example
- thursday 30-10-14 (start) Colossians 3 ( reading through Colossians at Carter's repeated suggestion to our Bible class, Jaime at huddle, Pastor Nate's sermon on Sunday, Adrienne's prayer before we started our day on ministry day. )
This is what my notes about what God has been teaching me looks like. God has been using all the adults in my life to teach me things and it was humbling to see that written all out in front of me. God is good.

One of the first things God started teaching me here was that He was going to redeem my weaknesses. You would not believe how many times 2 Corintians 12:9 has come up! It comes up at least weekly for me still. I know I have not journaled every time it has come up but I know the first time was when JAime shared it at huddle and the last time was this pasat week when she gave us each a little poster with a verse on it and mine was 2 Corithians 12:9. Lets just say I have the verse memorized now. God is so amazing. I love to see Him at work.

Sunday 2-11-14

Recaping for last month... I am sorry I have posted in awhile. I have been away the pact couple of Sundays. This month I have started ministry, which has been going great. I have gone for three times and got to spend the night twice. We started host homes and have gone once. We will go a second time this month. The family I stayed with is known for serving his kids fish. There were all making jokes because I told them I did not eat fish. Lets just say that it was the best chicken i have ever had. He made fried and grilled. They were both delicious. I cannot believe I have deprived myself of something for so long just because I did not like the smell. He hosted a party at a lake and we were invited (us students) and the church. He fed us lunch and i was given the choice of chicken or fish. Everyone chose fish. They had all heard from me how good it was and they liked it too. Even the other students who did not usually eat fish.

We spent a week in the mountains. It was a much needed break for us and for our leaders. They banned homework and we had no wifi so it was each other, our Bibles or our pillow. It was great. We were near a beautiful stream/river which was a soothing sound to wake up to every morning. We spent hours reading our Bibles. It was an awesome weekend. God knew we needed it.

When we got back, we hit some hard patches. I have seen or heard about 7/12 students crying this past week. I also know four of the adults around here had a hard week too. We know satan is just trying to bring us down after an amazing weekend with God. My apartment pulled together for each other. They are awesome. When someone starts crying we gather together and start praying. I am so blessed. This past week was the second time I have dealt with being home sick. I was journaling and listening to K-love when i just started crying. I had been think about how much fun i had had with Sophia and Tuari last halloween that morning. I went back to my apartment and girls all gave me hugs and got me laughing about something. I cannot say it to many times. God has blessed me with awesome apartment mates. Also my small group really affirmed one another this week and a lot of,what we talked about hit home. We wrote each other encouraging notes and then our small group leader gave us a card with an encouraging note too. Their notes to me almost made me cry. I read them over and over again as I was struggling this week. They helped me get through. I love Wednesdays because of small groups.

Also this past week we had an exam and a oral test. Hard stuff. Amongst all the stress from homesickness, short tempers, studying and worrying about failing tests, we kept our eyes on God and the trip on saturday that we were invited to. It was prefect for us. I feel so much better. We spent our day swimming, playing games and talking with each other. It was great to hang out with some of the missionaries that we only see in church or at our ministry.

Wednesday 15-10-14

Time is flying by. My GAP siblings and i are already counting down to Christmas. For you guys it might seem far off, because you have several holidays before then. For us it is just a short time away. We are excited but some of us are sad too because it will be hard saying goodbye to our GAP family for those two weeks. Yes we are taking bets on who will cry at the airport. But all those sad thoughts are brightened with the thought of seeing family and bringing back american food.

My ministry is going great. I love sunday nights when i get to have a sleep over at my ministry with three of my gap sisters. We have a great time together and getting to know the ladies who run the ministry. This past sunday i was able to attend a evening church service with one of the ladies. It was a great experience. We drove to the church in the dark so it felt like we were driving into the middle of no where so i was very surprised to see people i had already met at the church. I was excited. I also got to meet some people that i will probably see again throughout my time here. I am disappointed i will not be able to go to that church again this week because i will be staying with a family for the weekend. I do not know much about it but i am going with one of my gap sisters to a family's home for the weekend and the father's name is Jose. Life is always interesting but that is when my faith is strengthened. God is good. I cannot wait to give you a update next week about my weekend. Hopefully i will have some good stories.

Sunday 5-10-14

I officially start my ministry tomorrow,  and i am very excited. I will be serving at emmanuel's house and help with their sponsorship program. We started last month with touring the ministries and praying about where God wanted us and what He wants us to do there. From the very start i felt God calling me to serve at the GAP compound and the sponsorship part of Emmanuel's house. I just did not know what He wanted me to do at the GAP compound. I spent a lot of time in prayer about it and slowly I felt God telling me that He wanted me to get to know the groups that come through on short term mission trips. I tried to pretend like i did not hear Him because i did not like the thought of trying to interact with all those people. I am an introvert. Those groups can get very big. I talked about it with one of the missionaries visiting for the marriage conference and she gave me jeremías 29:11 "For i know the plans i have for you," says the Lord. "They are plans for good and not for destruction, to give you a future and a hope." I felt God was telling me that yes He wanted me to get to know people with the groups but it was going to be a good learning experience for me. He is pushing me out of my comfort zone not yo harm me but to help me become a better servant for Him. He is teaching me a lot. I cannot wait to see what else God has in store for me this year.

This past month has gone by so fast but i am trying to live in the moment and create lasting memories.

Saturday 4-10-14

It has been a busy week. I am learning a lot in both spanish class and bible. This past week was evangelism. Our bible teacher, Mickey, came with his daughter, Cheyenne, who was a GAP student in costa rica two years ago. They were a lot of fun to hang out with. My roommate and i spent a lot of time talking with them. Cheyenne had some great advice for us and we got to hear about the differences between the two programs. She told us several times to live in the moment, because it will be over before we know it. The first night, his daughter cheyenne and I tied the two apartment doors shut. The girl in both apartment were trying to get out. It was hilarious. Yeah it was an awesome week.

Sunday 28-9-14

I have officially been here over a month. It makes me sad that time is going by so quickly. This week has been very good though. I was able to visit two of the ministries a second time. One of which is where i plan to serve for the rest of the year. My roommates and i were able to tag along with some a group of missionaries that were visiting from all over south and central america. They were awesome and very funny. We had a lot of fun with them. We were sad when they left because we enjoyed hanging out with them.

Tuesday 23-9-14

I cannot believe one month of being here quickly is approaching. Just three more days. It is going by way to fast. Life here is amazing. The people here are awesome. My spiritual life here is great. I cannot ever have enough time with God but here i am getting close to having a satisfying amount every day. I love being with Christians who are in the same place spiritually as me. I love when others share what God has been teaching them in their quiet time, but i love our tuesday prayer groups even more. We pray constantly here. It is awesome.

I spent all my free time in the afternoon doing my homework. It paid off. I had all my homework done long before anyone else so i had no idea what to do for the rest of the evening. There is a marriage conference going on here for some missionaries, who are from all over central and south america. A few of them of them have children with them so while the parent were in the conference the kids were being babysat by some older missionary kids. Two of them live here at score. Their names are Julieta and Lucia. Julieta is fifteen and called me by name the second time i saw her even though the first was in a group where a bunch of people introduced themselves at once. I was very impressed. I am surprised how quickly people here pick up my name and remember it. But back to the missionary kids. I am not sure how old Lucia is but she is younger than Julieta. Since all my homework was done i went over and joined them playing with the kids. We played four square for awhile, which was a lot of fun. Then we colored. I joined Lucia and another girl who were drawing with chalk. I was drawing a flower when the girls both got up and ran to chase the four square ball or something. Then the intern walked up and asked if i was having fun sitting there drawing all by myself. Ummm. So yeah, i had a great evening and am so glad i was able to have all my homework done so early. This is just small piece to my wonderful day. When i journal at night, I can look back over my day and see so many God given blessings. God is good.

Saturday 20-9-14

This has to be one of my best days here so far. We all had a great time today. What was originally planned as just a fun day, was changed to a ministry day. We took a field trip to some historical caves that have indian cave drawings inside them. It may or may not be where Jurassic park was filmed. But the best part was that we took five children from Emanuel's house, which is one of ministries. These five children have sponsors who gave money for their birthday. Their teacher had tried to decide what to do with the children to make it a special for them. Most of these children have not been out side their very small community. It almost equivalent to someone never traveling outside of Tully. Our leader had come to us and asked if we would be okay if they came with us. Everyone excitedly agreed. Well at least I did.

God was with us that day. The five children had a great time. Everything went smoothly. At least from my point of view. There was one girl who usually gets very car sick. Jaime, our leader, said don't worry about because i have been praying about it for days. She was right, God heard her prayers. And I am very thankful to God because she sat next to me. :)

After our trip to jurassic park we stopped at a store so the kids could finish spending their birthday money on some items they needed. My roommates and i had a blast. After one little boy had picked out a pair of shoes, article of clothing and a toy ( all under $15) we kept busy by racing around the store in the kart. He was giggling so loud. Yes i am that crazy american. I never go unnoticed over here :)

Tuesday 16-9-14

I love tuesdays. This the day we meet to talk about the schedule and plans for the week and then break into our prayer groups. There are two others in my prayer group. Amanda who is the oldest student and is in my apartment. She is very motherly to my roommates and me. The other person in my group is Jaime our leader. I have really spending time in prayer with them, even though i dislike praying aloud. Next we will switch the groups up and i will miss praying with them a lot.

This weeks Bible class has been on apologetics. The class has been awesome. Today we talked some great apologetics and Ravi is at the top of the list. I watched a lot of his Utube videos right before i came so for the first time i felt comfortable enough to speak up in class. We have a new class subject and teach every week so it is hard for an introvert to participate. The teacher used to be in the military so he makes fighting analogies. I have started really missing boxing. After class i spent some time teaching my roommate how to box. We had fun and i enjoyed being back in the defensive mode for a little while. I miss boxing but i am very happy here. No mater how much i miss stuff back home it will not over power my joy of being here because life here is just that amazing.

Sunday 14-9-14

I love attending the spanish church here. I do miss my American church a lot but i enjoy worshipping in spanish more than I thought i would. I was allowed to work in the nursery. There were several crying kids. A couple of kids fought. The room was very small. But i loved it. I miss my younger siblings and i do not have the chance to play with kids all that much.

Sunday evenings, us students hold a little english service. Some of us shared our testimony. I was really excited to share mine. I ended up going second and cried through it because i had already started during the first girls. Hers was really good. We ended with singing How He Loves, which has become like our theme song. After we finished, we met in our leader's apartment for milksakes. It were so good. I enjoyed hearing everyone's testimonies (those who shared them) and it was just a great day all around.

Saturday 13-9-14

After lunch, the boys from one of the ministries came over to score to swim. We all went over and joined. It was a great time playing with the boys and getting to know them better. Last time, when we visited them, i only was able to get to know a few boys. I now six of the boys' names down, which is half, so i am doing good. They are very well behaved and a blast to play with.

Thursday 11-9-14

Today is a big day for everyone but to my roommate it is just her birthday. We celebrated good. She was given a brownie for breakfast. Our leader gave a birthday hat to wear all day long. We decorated our apartment. One of the guys had made a cake a couple of days earlier so we ate it while it was fresh and celebrated the three birthdays in this month. After eating the cake, we played games all night.  Which of course ended with someone in the pool.

Wednesday2 10-9-14

So they us in the beginning that seeing tarantulas was rare and they did not see to many scary things last year. In our first two weeks we have seen two tarantulas. One very big water spider. Last but not least one centipede. A couple of nights ago a girl woke up with it on her face. We have not been sleeping well since. Well some are not. I am too tired at night to even care, except I do shake out my blankets every night. We have lost just a little faith in our leaders. Some even asked if they had told us that these big bugs were rare to see just to keep us from being frightened.

Wednesday 10-9-14

Our ac broke in the main part of our house. I am actually very thankful for the inconvenience. Like cory tenboom i want to be thankful for the " fleas." I am thankful for the broken air conditioner because for the first time since being here i feel like i am getting a good taste of what it will be like as a missionary. I am thankful for my mosquito covered legs, again for the better understanding of what a missionary has to deal with. I am thankful for tarantulas because, when dead, they are great for pranks, laughes, and some screams. I am blessed. Life here is amazing because i am with Christians who put God first in their lives and as comunity put God first. My apartment has started praying every morning before leaving for breakfast and has made a huge difference in how i view my day.  Prayer works.

Monday 8-9-14

It has officially been two weeks away from home, which i think is the longest it has ever been. My apartment mates and i are starting to deal with some stuff. Not with each other but internally. Everyone seemed to be dealing with something so we sat down and spent some time praying together. It has definitely made a difference. Such a great group of girls God has given me to spend these months with.

Sunday 7-9-14

It is a special kind of  worship when you feel moved by a worship song that you are singing in a language you do not quite understand yet.

First complete week

They told us the american styles and trends completely changes every 16 months. I was listening to klove today for the first time since being down here. I have listened to four songs so far, two of which are new and i have never heard before. It is happening already. If i were to come back today i would already find it hard to adjust back and it has only been a week. I was never very american anyways. :D It just makes me want to stay here all the more.

Friday shopping

Today we spent the day at the capital buying necessities  we were not able to pack in our suitcase and some american comfort foods. The ride was a hour long which left us plenty of bonding time. For an hour we were jamming to music as a group. laughing at our selves as Dominican's looked on with curiosity. It was awesome. We ate at a pizza parlor for lunch. While we waited for our food we played truth or dare. Well it was truth and dare until everyone just started being told to do something awkward in front of everyone. I had to chug a glass of coke and I accidentally spilt it on myself. :P As a part of a truth i had to pray for the meal. There was a bout sixteen people. I was proud of myself, because I do not usuallly pray put loud. There the ride home was even better than the ride there. There was three of us in the back of the bus singing and jamming to the music. I do not think there is any proof of our awesomeness.

First post in the Dominican

First i want to thank everyone was has made this adventure happen whether by a donation or by lifting me up in prayer. This has been an amazing experience already and it has only been a day.

God has revealed himself from the very start. My first flight, i was able to watch the sunrise over the horizon. It was absolutely amazing! The flight attendants were very kind. I was able to navigate the JFK airport with no problem. On my second flight, I was sitting with a very nice man headed to the D.R. for business. I enjoyed talking with him for awhile. After the we landed he helped me through customs. I know God him put him there to help me and I am so thank for that. I was completely filled with peace the whole day.

I am so excited to be here. We have been getting to know one another and just hang out with each other. I have two roommates who are my age. They are  both from north Carolina. We start classes officially on tuesday. Until then we are just getting to know one another, the area and the ministries.

This is going to be an amazing year and I cannot wait to share it with you.

Quick update

I just want to thank everyone one who has donated to my trip. I have no worries that it will all come in before it is due with God's help. I have seen Him do amazing things before with my trips and I know this one is in His hands as well. Score will send me an update soon on how much more I need.

The girl, who my family is hosting arrived last week. We are having a great time together. Last night we made dinner together. Well she cooked and I just cleaned. :) The food was delicious despite all the veggies she put on my plate. :)

Sunday

At church today someone spoke about voice of the myrters. God has really impressed a desire to raise awareness about them in her. Over the years she has encouraged me to become involved. I want to encourage you to become involved in helping persecuted Christians around the world. I am not talking about money. All I am asking for is prayers and a little time. You see there is a young woman who is facing the death penalty because she is a converted Christian and married an American Christian. Would you be willing to do just a little to help save her life.

Go here to read another lady's blog post about the young woman and find out how to help.

Sponsor Sunday

Even though the purpose of this blog is starting to change I could not pass up posting this young man from togo. As soon as I saw his hair I new I need to post about him. It is not that his hair is cool or unique because when you a red haired child on Compassion it usually means malnutrition. Severe malnutrition I think. Although I guess it is possible that he was born with red hair, it is more like from malnutrition and will fade away after several months in the program. So here is Fabrice and his profile.

Fabrice lives with his father and his mother. At home, duties include gathering firewood, washing clothes and making beds. His father is sometimes employed as a farmer and his mother is sometimes employed as a farmer. There are 6 children in the family.

Soccer, playing with cars and singing are Fabrice's favorite activities. In primary school his performance is average and he also regularly attends church activities and Bible class.

Your love and support will help Fabrice to receive the assistance he needs to develop his potential. Please pray for him.

Dominican Republic

So reality of the trip is starting to set in. I am starting to fundraise and will hopefully have a donation button up soon. I am excited about the trip but the fee of 10,500 is just a little daunting. Please pray that I raise enough money to not only pay the fee but also my flights and be able to keep paying for my Compassion children while I am away.

One way I plan to fundraise is through my etsy shop. I hope to put some merchandise back up in my shop to sell because right now my it is empty. I will come back and post the link when I do that. :)

Look at his big brown eyes. Please pray that his long awaited family will find him soon.

I also want to post another young man, whose name is David.

He has an updated bio and a description from somebody who met him. Here is what they said.

Update March 2014:
This kid is AWESOME!!!! He seriously has no business in a level III/IV institution. His CP is so mild- he walked around, did all kinds of stuff. He’s smart and funny, he and my translator talked for about 15 minutes and she said he is a “very normal child and good at conversation.” He was very “appropriate”- I don’t know another way to say it- he was quiet and looked at us like “who are these strangers?” and looked to the nannies for approval, and only then spoke to us. My English (and butchered attempts at Russian) made him start to grin but he quickly got it under control and didn’t outright laugh at me (which makes him more polite than the majority of folks lol!) and he was very respectful. I LOVE this kid- he needs a family immediately- someone to get him in school and get some botox in that left leg and get those legs stretched so he can walk easier. He would be an awesome addition to a family!

Please pray that David will find his family soon.

Motherless Monday

This month I will be posting children who seem to go unnoticed on Reece's Rainbow.

The first child I will post this month are two girls who have been on my heart for a while. They are from same orphanage. The first girl is Angela

Angela June 2013
Angela
She was born in February of 2001.
Her Diagnosis:  severe grade of the mental delay, hydrocephalus, fibrosis of hyaloid, secondary glaucoma, exfoliation/detachment of retina, congenital defect of the heart partition

Angela is very small for her age.  She needs a family soon!

Update from June 2013:
She is so sweet. She is blind, but follows with her head your voice and she smiles very big when you talk to her! She has such potential but is in a bed!!

She reminds me of my brother and I want her to feel the love of a family like he does.

The second girl is Lorelie.

Lz
Lorelie
She was born in Dec of 2008
Her diagnosis is Mental delays, Cerebral Palsy, development delay. Atrophy of eye nerve. Cardiopathy.

From someone who met her in June 2013:
She was one of my absolute favorite kids I met! She is just the sweetest thing. She is diagnosed with MR not sure she really is. She was giggling and introduced herself by saying her name. She has a huge smile! She has a special nanny that does PT with her. She was bed bound when I met her but she came from a very good orphanage before she was transferred here. She needs out now!!

Please pray that these beautiful and delicate little girls find their forever family soon.

Extra Post

So I have big news. I am heading back to the Dominican Republic in August. I will be there four months come back for one then go back for another four months. I cannot wait. This summer is going to be crazy. For the month of July, my family is hosting a fourteen year old from Latvia. She leaves two weeks before I do, so it is going to be one rough month for my family. Please keep us in your prayers and I will try to keep you updated.

Sponsor Sunday

So I am breaking my rule today and posting a cute little girl. Her name is Marina. I have seen her on the website for a month or two and I thought she had been sponsored but I came across her picture again the other day. I had first noticed her because of her name, which rhymes with mine. Sweet old ladies often call me Corina Marina or sing the Corina song. Yeah, there is a song dedicated to my name. Marina is the same age as the little boy I was corresponding with last year.

Marina June 1, 2005

Marina lives with her father and her mother. She is responsible for carrying water and cleaning. Her father is sometimes employed as a laborer and her mother maintains the home. There are 3 children in the family.

For fun, Marina enjoys rolling a hoop, singing and playing with dolls. She attends church activities regularly and is in primary school where her performance is average.

Because of your sponsorship, Marina will have new opportunities to learn and grow physically, mentally, and spiritually. Thank you for your concern and prayers.

Fatherless Friday

I am sorry there was such a large gap between posts. My family has been pretty sick these past two weeks. But we are much better, thanks to God.

Today I was think over who I should post when I came across the post that was just written on No Hands But Ours about several children with albinism.  Tayte is there although he is list as Oscar.

His profile on Reece's Rainbow says Tayte is a smart and easy going boy. He attends kindergarten where he gets along well with other children. He can feed himself, dress himself and go to the restroom by himself. He picks up toys, sets the table, and is able to do some housework.
He takes the initiative to greet people who he knows and have simple conversation with them. He meets someone and will ask them if they have finished their days work, showing concern for other person.
Because of his vision, he struggles with pictures, but he is a organizer of other kids to teach them the games he learns at school. He will play with those he is unfamiliar with if introduced to them and told to play together. He likes to sit on adults lap and cuddle with caretaker.
He can go up and downstairs. Going down is a bit slow as he is afraid he would fall. He can run very fast and adjust his speed according to the circumstances. He likes to play toys with wheels and music. He especially loves to explore the environment.

His grant is $ 1,711.89

Please pray that he will not have to wait long for his family.

Motherless Monday

I only have one girl to post today. Her special need is albinism.

Vanessa

She does not have a very big grant.

Her profile on Reece's Rainbow says that she is a quiet and active girl who has been diagnosed with albinism. She is a 10 year old girl who always has a ready smile. Vanessa likes jumping on the trampoline and playing with dolls. Vanessa first came to the orphanage at 6 months old. Now, she is 10 years old and has normal physical and cognitive development. Due to her albinism, she does not like to play in the light. Vanessa can move freely in the institute and likes to play with the other children. Vanessa enjoys watching comics and can communicate well with others. Vanessa can put on her clothing without help and can understand easy things such as the answers to “why should you wash your hands before meals”, and “the purpose of a cup”. Vanessa likes to listen to music and play with the other children. She is very close with her caretakers.

Please pray that her family finds her soon.

There only a few children on the website from Thailand right now, but those children have red hearts and a few have been waiting over a year for a loving, letter writing sponsor.

The first little boy, Sitthipong, is dressed in modern Western Clothes underneath his tribal vest. He is so handsome.

Please remember Sitthipong in your prayers. Your love and support will help him to receive the assistance he needs to grow and develop.

The second boy, Pairat,  is obviously from a more rural community. I love that color.

another praise

Don Michael

When I checked Reece's Rainbow last night I was surprised to find that Don Michael has a family committed to him and fighting to bring him home in time. Please pray that God will remove any obstacles in the way of them adopting him before he ages out.

Helping a family fundraise for their adoption

I know I know, I started to slide in my posts. But hey I am back!

I have been swamped with school, working on an application for a gap year program in the Dominican Republic, which is where I went last summer.

This beautiful Saturday afternoon (at least where I live) there are only two days left for this fundraiser. There is a family that is offering a great deal of a raffle. For every 5 dollars you donate you receive one entry into the raffle. If you share about the give away on facebook twitter and blog.

Fatherless Friday

It  took a while but I finally decided on March's orphan category. This month I have decide I will post about children who are at risk of aging out because there are so many on the waiting list and a few precious children who age out this month. Today there are to older boys that I want to post. They are both aging out in august, diagnosed with albinism, featured on Reece's Rainbow, and both have just received a huge donation to put them up to 10,000 dollars. These boys have almost half of their adoption paid for with this grant.

so here are the boys:

Wesley

He suffers from vision loss due to albinism. His profile on Reece's Rainbow says: "Wesley was abandoned when he was 6 years old and he has been on the list since 2008. He has a gentle temperament, is polite and sensible, and gets along well with others. He likes to play games with kids outdoors. He likes watching cartoons, listening to stories with peers, playing games with kids outdoors, likes playing balls and toy cars best.   He especially prefers toys that make sounds."
Shane

Here's what his profile says about him "Shane is a very extroverted boy, he is active, outgoing, [speaks fluently], and he can talk freely before strangers. He likes to sing songs, and he often sings and dances before adults. His singing is beautiful.  He likes to play badminton, Fly Chess and car toys.  He has dreamed since he was young to be a bus driver to serve the passengers.  He is easy going, and he never breaks into temper without reason, so he often has a smile, and he often helps do something in his ability actively, like clean the floor and desk and fold the clothes and so on."

Sponsor Sunday

The child I am posting is a little boy who has been waiting far to long for a loving sponsor. He was my prayer child months ago and he had disappeared of the website but unfortunately he was not sponsored. I love his hair and his is pretty cool like come on it is a no Breiner. He looks like a sweet boy.

No child should ever have to wait that long for a sponsor, so will you pray
that he does not have to wait much longer.

Fatherless Friday

The boy I am posting about today is set to age out this year. His name is Don Michael, he is blind, and also lives at Bethel. He has a small fund on Reece's Rainbow. Michael is very talented. As you can see from these pictures he can jump rope and play an instrument. Please pray that this boy finds a wonderful family. So many of the cute little kids are being adopted from Bethel I cannot imagine how that hurts a child's esteem and hope for a family when it seems no one will ever come for them.

Fatherless Friday

I am going back and posting this little boy because I had him on my list to post but unfortunately I had a tough weekend and was not able to post it on time.

This little boy is as adorable as Gabe. His name is Simon, he is visually impaired, and lives at Bethel. Gabe and Simon are the same age. There is not as many pictures or information about him as Gabe but all he needs is one picture to speak a thousand words about precious he is.

This kid always seems to be moving :)
I think that is why the little girl put her hand on his head in the next photo.

My favorite color is blue so even though this is not really good picture of him I could not resist because he looks good in blue.

I have been looking forward to this post all weekend. This little girl also lives at Bethel and is blind and deaf. Her best photo is also from pajama day. Is she not beautiful or what? They do not have many pictures of her but this one definitely does her justice.

Sponsor Sunday

When I posted little Arthur last week I noticed that Fredy was still waiting for a sponsor. I have seen him on the website for quite a while and he has to be approaching six months. He suffers from hearing loss. He lives with his mother and father, but he does not have any siblings. Fredy is in kindergarten and his performance is average. I pray that this boy does not have to wait to much longer for a loving and letter writing sponsor.

The second child I am posting is an little older. His beautiful dark skin and striking blue shirt caught my eye. I also like names that substitute the "j" for a "y".

NEW IDEA

I decided that I will have a monthly theme for the children I post. This month the theme will be children at Bethel. I have also decided that I will try to post two children a week. A girl on Monday and a boy on Friday. So we will have to see if I will be able to keep up with the posts.

Fatherless Friday

This week I am posting about another little boy, Greg, who lives in the same place as Gabe. He also had cancer of the eye and is currently receiving chemotherapy. Unlike Gabe he is only featured on Bethel's website and facebook.

He recently caught the chicken pox and was in the hospital because of a reaction to the virus. This boy definitely needs some prayers that this last treatment of chemotherapy will wipeout his cancer.

I am posting the picture of him that is on the website because even though it is slightly older, it is a better picture of him and the hair he will have again after the chemotherapy.

Sponsor Sunday

So the child I was planning on posting about was sponsor yesterday! He had been waiting for over five hundred days so I am very happy he has found a sponsor. However, that left me a little unprepared today.

Today I am posting an older teenager who is in the same project as one of my sponsored children.
Proceed to our secure online form
This is Germaine. She goes by her last name because in Burkina Faso it is polite to use the person's last name.
She was also born in 1996. Germaine's family is smaller with only two other children, and her parents.

Does she not look lovely in that all white outfit, or what?

I cannot get past that look on her face. She looks hopeless. She could definitely use some prayers and a wonderful sponsor to mentor her.

This project sends regular letters from their children and often send pictures when an extra monetary gift is given.

I am also posting a young boy that reminds me a lot of my little brother. For one they are both visually impaired. Second, they are both beautifully dark with curly hair. Third, they are both seven.

Arthur lives with his mother and father and two siblings. He is average in school and enjoys running and ride bikes.

I pray that they both find a wonderful letter writing sponsor quickly.
